Henry's Last Dance

water-based media on canvas (this piece was used for an interactive dance with Lexington Ballet Company)

76" x 70" x 20"

A native of the architecturally progressive prairie town of Columbus, Indiana, I was formally educated in art.   My mother ran the art gallery at The Commons, which was positioned in view of Jean Tinguely’s Chaos sculpture, a working masterpiece.    I have been the recipient of several grants, the funds of which have enabled projects such as Stories About Mountaintop Removal, The Counterpane, and Freedom Summer Paintings: A Mississippi Season of Harassment, Terrorism and Progress.  Currently in the studio is an anti-racism series as well as a save the planet because we must series.   There’s so much work to do.

What started as a way to stay in touch because long distance phone calls were too expensive,  Leslie and I began a postcard project in hope of “hey, let’s do 1000 of them!”.  Recent inventory counts over 1500 the aptly named Overstamped: an ongoing 30 year postcard collaboration thrives.   Not only do we physically place stamps over used postage both for decoration and shipping,  we also have implemented a ridiculous amount of extra postage to ensure safe passage through the USPS.   My mailman pays the extra postage when needed.  I reimburse him.
